Millers Pond, Corgi-Mix Approved!

Hello everyone!  Reba here, taking over for my human!  I wanted to get my paws in the action, so I stole her laptop and here we are.  Our latest adventure took us to Millers Pond State Park in Haddam, CT.  As you can see, I was quite eager to get out of the car and get my exploring on!  The past couple of weeks had been gloomy and drizzly, so it was nice to finally see the sun and get out to try some new places.

First suggestion would be to bring bug spray.  I mean, they didn’t bother me, but one tried to fly up my human’s nose!  She was less than impressed and quickly regretted not bringing the bug spray.

We started walking down a trail from the parking lot.  It was a wide dirt trail, which we broke off of to check out the pond.  We saw some people in small boats; I believe my human called they kayaks.  Back on the trail, there’s a large sign warning people that swimming is at your own risk.  I eyed up the water, but it looked a little too deep for my liking so onward we went!  We passed a couple people fishing in an open area, then we were back in the forest.  The trail veered in two directions, and we continued on the dirt trail we had been on.

There are some small inclines.  It wouldn’t bother most, but they did make me a little out of breath because of my bad lungs.  Still, onward we went!  The humans debated turning around, but me, being me, wanted to keep going.  We finally made it to a grassy area that had a small bridge.  Guess what we saw!  Another dog!  I love making new friends, so this was very exciting for me.

One woman was trying to encourage the dog to cross over the bridge to the side we were on.  The dog didn’t want to go, which I didn’t blame her.  I don’t much care for bridges, either.  Finally, the other woman gave up and walked him through a small stream to get to where we were, while the other woman continued over the bridge.  She was embarrassed, but I don’t know why.  I might have done the same thing if I had the option to cross it.  Anyways, the other dog was very friendly and we had play time!  It’s always nice to play with another dog other than my tiny brother, Frankie, who is a Chihuahua.  The dog even tried to do zoomies on her leash!

The women took my new friend away, which was sad.  But then we were left with three choices: turn around and go back the way we came, keep going across the bridges and loop around the pond, or take another trail, which eventually linked back to the dirt trail we were on.  I was panting heavily at this point, so continuing around the lake was out.  Going on the other trail was ruled out because there was a pretty steep incline up rocks.  Considering my humans thought I had already overdone it, that was quickly ruled out.  So, we turned around and went back the way we had come.

On the way back, the fishermen were replaced by a group of teenagers, who were jumping in the water.  My humans thought they were crazy and said the water had to be freezing, which was confirmed by them yelling it was freezing after they jumped in.  Crazy kids!  But they were playing what the humans called “oldie” music, and I liked it!  I put a little extra jiggle in my corgi-mix butt wiggle, as I attempted to dance while I walked.

By the time we made it back to the parking lot, I was exhausted!  I was walking really slowly, but the humans were great and didn’t push me to walk faster than I could handle at that point.  They also gave me plenty of water breaks!  As you can see below, I was tired but happy, based on the smile I was sporting.

I’d definitely go again!  I’d like to try the other trails.  It’s also a good place to have a picnic, go fishing, kayaking, or swimming if you’re brave enough to try it.  I’d recommend it to my other dog and human friends.

We’ll see you on the next adventure!
